A smartphone in 2022? Who would have thought that smartphones would be around for that long? But let’s say you’re ready to make the leap into the future, and you’re looking at all the available options to see which one will be the best smartphone in 2022. Well, here are some of the best contenders on the market today so you can figure out which one might just be your future phone.
iPhone 16
Apple has been developing a mobile phone for years, but it's
unlikely to have an impact on its flagship product, as it's far more likely to
release a new iPhone 7 or iPhone 8 instead. Still, rumors continue to suggest
that Apple is working on a smartphone device with near-indestructible sapphire
screens, no home button and under-the-display fingerprint readers (like ones
shown off by Qualcomm). If all that comes together—and can also be made cheaply
enough—it'll be an interesting device. Otherwise, 2020 seems like a good guess
for when we see Apple finally debut a smartphone. And hey—if they do something
crazy and use Google's Android operating system like some are predicting, maybe
our 2020 pick will come from Cupertino!
New iPhone
If you’re looking for a new smartphone brand, Apple’s iPhone
may be right up your alley. However, iPhones are notorious for their high price
tag and aren’t available at most budget prices. If you want to get an iPhone
without breaking your budget, it may be worth waiting until early September
2017, when the next iPhone is rumored to launch. It's also important to note
that iPhones are highly sought after and rarely go on sale or have good deals.
Samsung Galaxy X
Many people have already predicted that Samsung will release
a foldable smartphone called the Galaxy X at some point. This device is rumored
to be very thin and have a flexible OLED display. If it’s ever released, it
would likely be one of most expensive phones on our list because of its
advanced display technology. It’s hard to say if consumers will bite right
away—but only time will tell. One thing’s for sure though—they’ll certainly be
impressive!
Google Pixel 4
With its small body and a 4.4-inch display, Google’s Pixel 4
doesn’t look all that different from many other phones on today’s market. But
what it lacks in size, it makes up for with killer features like a Snapdragon
855 processor and 6GB of RAM (for multitasking power), and a built-in battery
that gets up to 2 days of juice between charges. And while we didn’t have time
to test every one of these features, Android users can rest assured that they
are future-proofed with better security and software updates than their
counterparts at Apple or Samsung. And that's worth quite a bit when you're
talking about your smartphone business.
Nokia Lumia 9
Nokia’s new Lumia smartphone is set to be a disruptive force
in mobile for several reasons. Firstly, it will run Microsoft’s Windows Phone
operating system which has been gaining market share steadily over the past
couple of years. This is largely due to an excellent smartphone app ecosystem
that has supported developers superbly and even had some paid apps reach number
one position on its app store. More importantly, though, Nokia has just
announced a deal with China Mobile -- the world's largest mobile network
operator -- to bundle its Lumia smartphones with 1GB data allowance per month for
two years; valid across all 19 provinces of China Mobile, including in rural
areas.
Huawei Mate 8 2
In another world with my smartphone, I like to spend a lot
of time traveling and meeting new people. I love having a device that will
always give me an easy way to connect with friends, family and business
associates. Over-reliance on smart devices for communication can be dangerous
when away from civilization. So I like to have a phone that has incredible
battery life so it will last through many hours of use without needing a
charge. Huawei Mate 8 2 has long lasting battery power and it is also water
resistant which can help if it rains or gets wet during one of my adventures.
It is great being able to get online anywhere with its 4G/LTE capabilities no
matter where I am or what kind of connectivity options are available at that
moment.
LG G5 Air
LG recently announced its next flagship smartphone, LG G5
Air. Boasting a sleek design and impressive specifications, LG G5 Air is
equipped with best-in-class cameras and displays. Most importantly, it's
powered by Jio OS—which is specially designed for voice commands. As of now we
have no idea how will it fare in terms of battery backup and processor
performance but once we get our hands on it, our review will give you a better
idea about how good (or bad) it can be.
Xiaomi Mi 5X Prime
The new and improved Mi 5X, which will come with a
Snapdragon 660 chip, is actually supposed to be one of Xiaomi’s best
smartphones. If it launches at a good price point, we expect that it will
contend for a spot on our list of best budget smartphones. In addition to being
powerful and coming at an affordable price point, there are rumors that it may
also launch as Xiaomi’s first smartphone with dual rear cameras (if so, it could
contend for a spot on our list of best camera phones). However, we’re not sure
when exactly we can expect to see it released.
Blackberry Z10 4G
Now that Research In Motion has been bought out by
BlackBerry, it’s time to put away your jokes about awkward keyboards and toast
a new era for one of the most influential companies in mobile history. Don’t
expect much from RIM, though; even with 4G support and an Intel processor, its
new Blackberry Z10 doesn’t stand a chance against phones like Nokia's Lumia 920
or Samsung's Galaxy S3. RIM is giving up on its own operating system to instead
focus on growing BlackBerry Messenger and building a stronger cloud-based
service platform. Still, there are reasons to think that Blackberry might
survive—and even thrive—in a crowded smartphone market over the next few years.
Microsoft Surface Phone
Microsoft already has two secret, powerful smartphones of
its own in development. While there's been no word about these phones for some
time, rumors say that Microsoft is gearing up to make an announcement about
them before 2017 is over. One of these rumored phones—codenamed Andromeda—is
reportedly similar to a smartphone/tablet hybrid like Samsung's Galaxy S8, with
a 4.5-inch touchscreen and interchangeable hardware attachments (like a larger
screen or stylus). It could even be powered by Windows 10 or Android. If that
sounds like it would appeal to you, keep your eyes peeled; if all goes well,
Andromeda could appear as early as next year. It wouldn't be long after that
until Nokia's cheaper phone joins it on store shelves.
